The multiplexes are back to fleecing people of their hard earned money, and Bollywood’s out to support, with big stars, expensive costumes, phoren locations, and many many songs!
The box office battle will have lovers Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan fighting it out with Kambakkht Ishk and Love Aaj Kal.
KAMBAKKT ISKH:

One must notice the extra ‘K’ in the name. The story is of a super model, so Kareena gets to juice her super slender figure and gets costume designer Akki Narula to bring in some million and a half pairs of shoes to add the glam touch (this is when I wish I could switch roles, or be her best friend!). And the other half is Akshay Kumar, as a stunt man, so doing what he does best, scaring people with fake suicide attempts!
Basically they FALL IN LOVE!- ishk happens and popcorn must be paid for!
LOVE AAJ KAL:

Firstly, the promos make it look like ‘Jab We Met’, the previous venture by Imtiaz Ali, with Saif’s current girlfriend. Don’t know if was Saif’s Kareena hangover, or Imtiaz’s lack of perspective. Anyways, the protagonists in this movie FALL IN LOVE. Song and dance happens, some running around trees and some running from people…but yah, all about loving, caring and sharing!
NEW YORK:

Kabir Khan is no love hitch-hiker. He has made a movie about Indians living in New York Post 9/11. A ‘more’ movie, where there seems to be a fun element, with a serious touch to it as well!
So we have enough to chill in the multiplexes with eh?

The Cannes 09 schedule is out, and the lasgerst film industry failed to feature here. There is no Indian film that qualified for the prestigious film rendezvous this year!
Now we have to wait and watch which Indian beauty charms the fashionistas at this event!

I was surfing the internet for news, my everyday dose of newspapers, where i discovered a headline where Preity Zinta was quoted being very livid. I went onto check what was the issue and found her complaining about the quality of journalists today. (http://www.itimes.com/public_content.php?cid=84042&ref=toi_rn) She was particularly livid with the scourage a particular young lad had done through Mumbai Mirror. I empathise and realize the lack of research based journalism. I apologise for any mis-representaions on my part.

the benchmarks!
It took four and half hours to crown another Indian woman a Pantaloons Femina Miss India. (Well the title has changed from Femina Miss India to Ponds Femina Miss India to now Pantaloons Femina Miss India; I guess they sell more than just the name of the contest)
I watch this show for the sheer nostalgia and hope. I honestly love Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta among a bunch of the older Miss Indias. These women were not even churned through the ‘training or polishing’ process and were still so god-dammit charming. They were inspired b y more than Mother Teresa and their mothers and wanted more than ‘world peace’. I miss those misses!
Well the show began with the gorgeous Malaika Arora being the beauteous her, and welcoming judges such as Deepika Padukone (Gorgeous hamesha!), Asin (pretty), Nandita Mahtani (for her style quotient), Sushmita Sen (a little over fed Miss Universe still!) and Ajay Devgan (why?). Then came the absolutely absurd preliminary round winners such as Gilli Miss Golden Heart, Jealous 21 Miss Sexy Legs (if I open a bar, that’ll be priority), Indiatimes Miss 58888 (is that how they define the perfect figure now-a-days?), Sony My Miss India and the best of the lot was Kohler Miss Bold (this should lead to a mental contradiction with the contestants- should be the desi demure girl or should be the hard ‘bold’ slutty mama?); and the rest were the old ‘Best Smile, Best Body yadayada!
I guess even the event organizers knew that these women were not hot enough to burn the TRP meter, so they got in a 3 lovely lads to spice things up. First a frosty Genelia D’souza swinging to the 80, a slightly not interested Kanga Renault trying to dance and the cherry was Priyanka Chopra with her desi girl bonfire! One of the other entertaining factors was Swapnil and Karan sprucing up some cheap but fun humour! I guess it was the male ooglers, thus passed the womanly ear! But what crash landed on our ears was the choice of music, with ‘I wanna make love to you’ being followed by ‘masakalli’ for the ramp stamps!
A friend of mine called just to vent, saying the posing was poise-less, walking wastes and answers (like Wichita saying she wanted to change her nose and God should work on Humans and world peace!) annoying!
Well through the rut came the not so gorgeous beauties- the winners:
ჱ Pantaloons Femina Miss India Earth- Shriya Kishore (wordy but not sturdy beauty!)
ჱ Pantaloons Femina Miss India World- Pooja Chopra (talented but the ‘bold’ kinda beauty)
ჱ Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe- Ekta Chawdhary (sweet but not salty enough!)
Well some more surprises were the announcement that the Pantaloons Femina Miss India World and Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe have the same pedestal and stature. NEWS: for many years, they both have the same stature, no winning!
Hope these women meet an alchemist, and India meets another world beauty!

I was just surfing the internet for some scoops to twine my writing around, and I was surprized at the truth in the marketing funda “SEX SELLS”. I, being a prude, am not very fond of sexual conversations; but still clicked on almost every story even offering a peek into the racy subject.
I looked up a lot of sites and some of the stories that got a click from me were:
• Ranbir Kapoor reveals his experience of losing his virginity at 15- no goss here; it was a magazine ad!
• Abhishek Bachchan wanted to sleep with Zeenat Aman- really… don’t tell me he didn’t for his dad!
• Pamela Anderson’s top slides down at the Paris Fashion Week- the news should be she was wearing something that could cover her boobs in the first place!
And then I came to write, and stoped reading random news stories.
On another note, Indian politics is rolling its carpets out as the elections approach. Politicians and existing MPs have already started campaigning, even before they were assured a ticket! Some faith they have in this Gandhian anarchy.

I was very upset with the authority with which some nincompoops criticized SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, when even seven generations of their family couldn’t produce something half as magical.
I ask this question; why to film critiques believe we want their opinion on the garments and lighting and editing, when none of them have any clue of even the difference between online and offline editing! When some of the senior most journalists were lambasting about the stark show of poverty in the movie, I wish to ask, why on earth we consider Satyajeet Ray a legend, just because he did it black and white! And people who kept at trying to look for plausibly and logic breaks in the scripts, why do you go gaga over James Bond, cause really, if he can survive poison, cyanide, being beheaded and chased be half dead and deadly ogres, why can’t a young boy in India talk in English!
All I mean to say is that a critique’s job is to give you an objective view on some platforms that he/she has some expertise on. Imagine if Subhash K. Jha or Khalid Mohommad made a movie…actually don even imagine…you haven’t sinned enough yet!

I just saw Dilli 6 yesterday, and I’m now looking for a lawyer to help to sue Rakesh Omprakash Mehra for mental torture.
Firstly his innate advertiser came out. The movie was more of a MOTOROLA ad than three hours of confusion. And second, the lead actor should be ‘masakkali’, the dove, cause not many other act as such. But I don’t blame them; imagine them asking the director for directions and ROM saying, just act like you feel the pain every Indian is going through, or just follow the lovely dove for all you care!
Abhishek Bachchan is enjoying the double paychecks (MOTOROLA and ROMP), and Sonam Kapoor is just the one to add to the aesthetic value, and do the masakkali dance mainly for promos! (Not really, she wasn’t that bad actually!).
There is a whole sub story around this thing called the monkey man. I completely empathize with ROM’s emotion in mocking the mass behaviour, and their tendency to twist a tale to suit their call. But I also wish it was put forth more sensibly. The other plots laced around this cause were religious riotary, hooliganism and basic Indian errors that lead to the apology of today. The only itch here was that the basic plot and fabric of movie was lost. Most people were more involved in ‘that’ scene than trying to make the movie as a complete.
I guess this may have germinated from some slack in the screenplay. It looked like whiffs of great ides put together in a not so great way.
After Rang De Basanti, I still hold immense respect for Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, but he failed to deliver this time. I guess not his best day! My only fear now is, that the movie didn’t have a conclusive ending, and thus the fear of a DILLI 7 in his belly!

The Dev D rockstar, the new kid on the block and one of the few actors in Bollywood, is leaving the film-city for New York. Sigh! Sulk! Morn! And finally I weep!
Yes, Abhay Deol is heading to hit the education is the country already hit with broken dreams. He says, “Melting metal at 60,000 degrees Fahrenheit is very therapeutic. It’s as cathartic as living out the anguish of Dev D.”
Why, why, why is what most women would ask! The student of the Arts Students League of New York, responds, “I am here in New York to stay. It’s not as easy as it sounds; it was a hard decision to take. Traveling back and forth will take a lot of time and money. But I needed to get away. Acting is my primary passion. But there’s so much more to do in life. In Mumbai I was getting caught in a rut.”
But these bitter tears can be condoled by the scanty line up of projects he still has in Mumbai, which will promise at least some visits to India, even though they’ll be rare and erratic!

Brihan Mumbai Corporation is dabbling with the cineworld and refuses to hit the big screens with nothing less than an item number clad romantic power-packed socially educating M.O.V.I.E. . Their project MUMBAI CHAKACKAK, a movie to promote cleanliness in the city, has been delayted due to the need of an exciting climax and the temperature soaring itsy bitsy dancy number. I guess the BMC has their priorities in place- interlacing entertainment with social education! waah!
May be Ram Gopal Verma can join them and add some more fire (aag!) to their story!
